Default LS1 mid-top end

Does anyone know why my 00 Z28 A4 slows down at 80? I think it might be dirty injectors but I'm not sure. Also does anyone know if I'm supposed to use Automatic overdrive or regular D when racing?

Leave it in drive, the downshifting from OD to lower gears is hard on the transmission.

Run a bottle of techron fuel injector cleaner, or get some BG. You need to describe what the car is doing better though, it may not be dirty injectors...

You're going to want to use normal Drive for racing or spirited driving. Overdrive is for better fuel economy, mainly on the highway or at higher speeds. I haven't driven an A4 LS1, so I couldn't tell you why you feel slow at 80MPH. It could just be a figment of your imagination. I know in the M6 LS1 I drove, 80MPH was when it started getting good .

If you're racing from a stop live it in OD (or D if you're Pontiac)
if you're in any gear but 4th when the race begins (such as 25 mph punch) then you can leave it in OD. But if your car is in 4th gear (like at 35 mph+) when the race begins, you should knock it down the D (or 3 if you're pontiac) so it'll downshift on it's own, then floor it.

The whole reason, is that supposedly it's not good for the transmission to shift out of 4th gear while at full throttle. It's the same for shifting into 4th at WOT. If the race goes past 130mph and you're a 3.23 A4 just let off.

And when you're an A4 you can't really manually downshift into the optimum gear, the tranny does it for you at certain speeds. As a result a- stock 3.23 A4 is fastest from a dead stop, a 25 mph roll-on, or a 65 mph roll-on. All of that changes if you get a torque convertor. If you have many more questions they really should be addressed in the automatic transmission forum, I'm sure they'll help you out.

I checked under the hood this morning and my paper air filter looks like someonee with brown urine pee'd on it, and there's dirt everywhere in the compartment where the filter is housed. Could that explain my sluggish for a v6 acceleration?

I believe the V6 explains the sluggish acceleration.

Yes, get a new air filter, clean out all the debris, and check that the MAF isn't covered in debris as well.

Bad plugs would make more of a difference up top than a dirty filter. Unless the filter was REALLY dirty.

Just change the plugs yourself, it's not exactly difficult.

Just disconnect the airbox and pull the MAF off of the throttle body and blow the debris off. Very easy.

On the MAF I would suggest that compressed junk geeks use on their computers, someone know the name of it? I am not sure on this, but it seems like a harmless way to clean somethign sensetive like a MAF.

Wait....debris ON the MAF....we are referring to the wires INSIDE the MAF in the air stream (just clarifying incase we are misunderstanding each other).

Yeah I'm assuming he's talking about the screen on the MAF...a bottle of compressed air, from Best Buy, Comp USA, or usually you can get everything off without aid.

Mine Z28 pulls really hard around that speed but I have 2.73s. Try to the simpliest things then go on to the harder ones.
