Default lifter noise

Hey folks, I'm new to this site and new to the ls1 engine. I have an '02 vette coupe with 30k miles and sporattically hear what I think is a valve lifter tick. Any one have any info on it?

Posting this in internal engine would gather a few more responses from you.

However ticks can come from other things, not necessarily a lifter. Where is the sound comming from (where can you hear it the most example: better from under the car, center of the car, etc.)

If you're using Mobil 5w 30 the oil turns thin as water when the oil gets hot. That'll make your lifters tick louder. I switched to 40 weight oil and the ticking almost disappeared. The remaining noise is from the high lift cam.

Use the suv/truck oil (I think it's 5 or 10 W40) and that will be a big improvment.

These motors have lifter noise. I would use the oil grade that gm recemends and turn up the radio.

I just did a change to Castrol High Mileage 10w30 and I have NEVER heard my engine this Quiet...even when new. I have about 100,000 miles on it. Well taken care of, and approx 70% Hwy miles.

whyd you go with 10w30 instead of 5w30 with the high mileage castrol?
