Need advice on an LT1
Hello, im new to the forums. Im 20, and im looking into getting an LT1 Trans am. I contacted my inssurance company i got a quote. Looks like 780$ a year which is really not expensive for my age. I have a few questions. Should i get 2 way inssurance? Also, which year would you recommend and what could i get for about 5 or 6g's? I dont mind a Z28, but i prefer the t/a. Thx

First off, the type of car you want should be completly up to you.
They both perform the same, so get the body style YOU like the best.
Second, youre buying a RWD V-8, so don't expect the insurance to be the best. Mine is actually very low, but I haven't been pulled over in almost 2 years, and I have almost no points on my license, if any.
Look for a 1995+ with under 100K, in nice shape. You won't be dissapointed.
96 and 97 are good years for the birds, with lots of WS6 and Ram Air cars built them years.
( Notice, WS6 and Ram Air are NOT the same thing, you can have one w/o the other and Vice Versa )

if you want an LT1, get either a '96 or '97 F-Body. Both of those years are rated at 285 HP (305 with WS6 option). '95 was rated at 275 HP and '94 and '93 was at 270 HP.

horsepower ratings for the lt1's just like the LS1's are almost completely worthless if you ask me, all you need to find is a good running well maintained lt1 or any car for that matter mine with just slp intake and catback matches at the wheels what they were rated at the crank i have seen lt1's with the same basic mods as me put down a range of 230-280 hp at the wheels
with my 271 hp at the wheels through an m6 puts me in the neighborhood of a shade over 310 at the crank hmmm where did that 40 horse come from some run better than others is the point

Get a 98. I hear those are a little faster
I wouldn't worry about the year. I would however try to find one with less then 100K miles, bone stock (modded cars are usually beat to hell) and with the body/interier in decent shape.

One thing you might want to think about is if you have to go through emissons testing.
If you do its usualy easier to pass with and OBDII car (96 and up) because they just plug in and check for codes. With an OBDI car they ususaly give it a sniffer test. But I dont know what they do in your area.
Then again this should only be an issue if your going to rip into the motor some time down the road.
