newb here, cam question
ok guys help me please, i went to a local garage and asked about putting in a cam in my ls1 trans am, they said the motor has to be pulled and its gonna cost me about 1k dollars to install it. now does the motor actually have to be pulled just to put a cam in it.
next i want a cam that sounds mean, i want to be at a red light and the car shake its got so much lope, now can someone tell me what cam i need and where to get it. and if your bored do you know of any reliable places that could do the cam for me, somewhere in the dfw area.
any help is appreciated, i just got my ls1 yesterday and im ready for that cam.

They're idiots. The engine does NOT have to be pulled. You need a cam with about 12 degrees of overlap to get that lopey idle. Don't be fooled into thinking you need a huge cam, either. You can get a smaller cam with a tighter lobe separation angle and still get the same sound that you're looking for. Maybe a Comp XE-R lobe cam of about 228/232 with a 109 - 110 LSA would be what you're looking for.

Haha wow the **** some shops will try to pull. As stated above the engine does not need to be pulled. Where are you lcated BTW, that way we can see if there is a shop in your area thats on this board. If you want a rough idling cam your probably going to want something in the 230/230 range. Click the link in my sig to hear a 232/238 112lsa cam with headers/ory/magnaflow.

YOu dont have a location posted but check for a LS1TECH sponsor in your area and give them a call, most of the sponsor specialize in LS/LT1's and you will get better work, and most likely for cheaper...most sponsor I have seen charge around 500 for a cam swap in an LS1

i know the engine doesnt have to be pulled, i'd be careful on buying a huge cam, could hurt latter if you decide to go power adder(turbo, sc or N20) i have a relatively small cam, but makes my turbo scream like a banshee(thats good for a turbo) and i make decent power
