I'm not so much a Newb all together, just to the LS1 world. I know my LT1 stuff inside and out. I always thought of the LS1's as the "dark side" of GM. But after enough of hearing the wife nagging about how she liked the newer body style Firebirds over our 94 Formula we had, and then coming upon a killer deal on the 98 Formula WS6 we now own, it all kind of fell in to place.
Now, I really like our new LS1, but never really did much research on it, which brings me to where I am now.

When I think "dark side" of GM, I think something totally different from the standard NA V8 performance cars that are most popular. I'm thinking: Turbo Regals, Sy/Ty, L67 3.8L SC W & H-bodies, Cobalt SS Supercharged, etc. All the non-V8 non-NA stuff.

Well, there's the dark side, and then there's the "other" side of which I include cars I love to put the smack down on in races, and hate loosing to. Mustangs and Rice fill this category nicely. I don't get too upset if I am beat by another GM.
It's more of an LT1 thing especially at the time I got mine, which was right when the LS1's came out, and all their owners thought they were better in every single way. It was just upsetting was all, and it was nice when they had M6 issues, or kept bending pushrods while my LT1 would grin and take more abuse.
Now that I own both, I can honestly say there are more things I still like about the LT1, and some other things I like better on the LS1. Stronger tranny, with less issues definatly have to go to the LT1 cars, while power and potential have to go to the LS1 cars. I like them both the same now.
