Default Trans Am... Maybe

Hey guys I'm new here. I'm I the process of buying a 99 trans am and wanted alittle input. Its a 99 trans am 133000 miles runs good and has no dents. There is two problems. The first one he told me about, the driver side window will not roll up or down. The second problem happened this morning on the way to work. He is letting me drive it this weekend to see if I like it. Well I was on the interstate and was messing with a 350z. I laid into it then it would shift out. So I let out of it but all the way to work after that it didn't want to shift into 3rd. I prob put 100 miles on it last night and it did fine.

I'm gonna say the trans is messed up,tell him that the car did it on its own and you want it for a better price now.

woah.. a 99 trans am for 4500? id say stay away from that. I know this one guy around here who was selling a 2000 trans am for 7k with 110k miles and i was amazed. Turned out the tranny was fucked up badly amongst other broken things in the car. Thats just pretty damn cheap to sell a trans am for even with that mileage

That is just what he owes on it. It was his wife's and the split up and can't afford the notes. His wife just drove it back and forth to work.

Is it a M6 or A4. All in all, if the trans is the only problem other than the window, I'd say you would have a good car for under 6-7 grand, including a rebuild on the trans.

The window isn't **** to fix. Could be as simple as a switch or motor which is still easy.

If its an M6 the SixSpeedsInc can build you a trans, A4 go with a performabuilt trans. They both give great prices.

I'd say it's a good deal for $4,500. On the tranny -- why don't you try to check the fluid level and make sure it's okay, see if you there's any shiny specs floating around, etc. -- if there is, fix that issue and maybe that's all she needs. If that doesn't work - try changing the tranny fluid, and if that doesn't work - maybe it's time for a rebuild or new tranny. But, try those other low cost things first. Even with a bad tranny, I think it's a good deal if the rest of the car is in good shape.

For the window you can hit a local junkyard and see if you can get a window motor -- or watch on ebay.

Quoting for emphasis. Whyte95ZRida pretty much nailed it. If you get it for 4500, take it. The rebuild of the trans won't set you back much (plus you have piece of mind in a fresh trans) and power window motors are pretty simple to deal with. There is even an illustrated guide online showing step-by-step instructions on how to do this yourself. Almost idiot proof.
