Mileage/Mods
I just bought a '99 TransAm a few months ago and I love it. So far I've installed an SLP Loudmouth II cat-back and a WS6 hood with RamAir intake. I'm kind of nervous about doing much else (had a stall and cam in mind) because I just clocked over 99,000 miles. I have a lot of plans for this car, but I'm kind of stuck on what to do right now with the mileage situation.
My question is, will I be okay modifying the engine with such high mileage? Should I just wait and save for a rebuild before doing other stuff? I was going to go with the latter, because I don't want to install a bunch of new parts and then have my car blow up.

My T/A didn't start getting modded 'till around 110,000 miles. At just shy of 130,000 I had a rod bearing go out on me which was a little disappointing since I had upgraded the oil pump and never messed with the bottom end (and changed the oil religiously). Not really too depressing for me though because I'm about to put in an LQ9. There really isn't any way of knowing if something is going to break without taking the motor apart and you have no idea how the people before you took care of it. For all you know you could have a valvetrain that is about to go that a cam/spring/rod swap fixes.
I'd go for it.
I'd go for it.

you could start saving for a monster rebuild, but i would say to continue with the bolt-ons, you car having 99k on it for a 99 isn't that bad at all...just continue with the bolt-ons

190,000 on my 98 with no problems. I'm just full bolt on though. I had to replace the push rods once and thats it.
Like was said before though, you don't know how the car was treated before you. I got my car with 50,000 on and the guy before me took very good care of the car it was a daily driver for his wife.
