Default Keeping the heads down on a BIG hit

What is everyone doing to prevent pushing water? I have learned quite a bit here and there and want to know all the tricks! I know Tune is a HUGE part but put tuning aside As far as PARTS go what can I get/use to keep these things down on a big hit 400-600. The heads im using are from ET.

Are they 6 bolt heads? That is a huge plus if they are.

I put my motor together with studs and cometic head gaskets, im gonna hit 300+ on a 347. I installed them as well when it was a head and cam car and, I hit a 250 shot on it about 7 times with 100,000 mile shortblock.

The liklyhood of it staying together with 600 worth of nitrous is not very high, you're gonna have to break that up into at least 2, probably 3 stages and the tuneup is CRITICAL to getting that to live, so much so that you're gonna wear the motor 1/2 out before you get there, so plan on freshening it up at least once, probably twice before you get to that power level.

It can be done. atv and I both did it never had any water issues. make sure the heads, deck, gaskets are very clean. they should all be perfect/true. for you best chance copper spray the commetics but we normally don't if they are the first time using them. if its a 4.0 bore use the 4.125 gaskets if its a 3.9 use the 4.60. put quench at .051-.061. tq the bolts down in 3 steps. 25,35,final tq( we use 70 cause thats where the engine builder hones our blocks at. if there new bolts losen them and retighten them 3 times. used bolts 2X. be conservative on timing working you way up not down. good luck LOL

I would assume the gasket and torque specs would be for a regular 11mm stud and a non o-ringed block. I plan on doing 1/2" head studs along with o-ringing the block and heads and using a copper head gasket. Who does the tuning on the nitrous motors?

Eastside has built a ton of nitrous cars over the years, you may want to try to get in touch with them about it.

Agreed, the more head studs the better, Ford 5.0's proved that. But when you solve one weak link, then the weakest one left will show up, Typically a piston. Like JL said tune up is critical and talking to the guys who have kept these high n2o shot motors together.

If you are going to listen to anyone, this is the person who knows what is going on. A very wise suggestion..............do what he says.

We use stock size studs and no orings. I would ask the engine builder what he thinks if you have those.

We tune them.
