Question Is 4.30 gears to steep?

Ok guys just like the thread says. I want to run a 100 shot. Are my gears to steep. I would be running on BFG DR'S. I will be getting my rear and clutch this week. I would like to the giggle gas so I can get into the 11's. I am kinda concerned about my gearing though. What do you guys think? To much spinning?

You'll be runnin out of gear without a 28" tire on it. I had to shift to 5th with a 4.11 gear stock motor and 100 shot. Killed my et and trap speed.

I run 4.30 gears but I had to go to a 30" tire to stay out of overdrive. On my 28's I was having to use OD and it was killing my MPH not to mention my trans.

I put down 406rwhp (N/A, with the stock rear) and went with the Moser 12 bolt/ 4.30 gears. My best ET with a 26" Nitto Drag Radial is a 11.81@ 116.9mph with a 1.72 60ft. I banged off of the rev limiter (6800rpm) for the last 80+ft of the track. BAPBBAPBAPBAPBAPBAPBAPBAPBAPBAP!!!

There is NO way you will make it with a 4.30 gear and N20. If you are gonna spray, you need to go with a 3.90 TOPS, and a minimum 28" tire.
What is your rev limiter set at?

Still have stock rev limiter and tuning. Well I was just wanting to be able to get all of those pesky SC'ed stang's and cobra's around here. I have my rear end and clutch coming in soon and I was just wondering on how to get into the 11's after I install my rear end and clutch. I guess I'll have to go internal. We'll see!

PonyKiln -- what do you have an M6 or A4?

Last year, M6, 100 shot, stock engine, stock fuel system, stock 28lb injectors, 4.30 gears with 12-bolt Moser, tuned by MAFT. I ran 28x10.5x15 ET Drags. Stock rev limiter. Best 1.50 60'; 11.38 at 124mph. A/D was right at 4800'. Shifted at 6100 - window cut off at 6,000. End the 1/4 in 4th gear at 6100 rpms. No problems.

So yes it can be done and has been. 4.30's are not to steep. In fact this year with my new set up, I may change to 4.56's or 5.16 (I think ?? ). 28" to 30" are about max'ing out the rear fender-wells without cutting the **** out of them.

You can go to my web-site for pictures of the 28" on the SS.

OH by the way, if you have an A4, forget the above, I know jack-**** on an auto.

First off he said clutch, so he has an M6. 4.30's on DR's? Yeah right!!! You're on crack. traction will probably be useless until 3rd gear.

Thx Navy dave! I'm glad somebody is doing it. We will see how fast I can get with the 4.30's and see what kind of traction I can get. I have seen alot of guys at my track break rearends and axles so I think prep is pretty good here. Thxs for all of the replys.

FYI, I am using 4.11's on my H/C setup and TNT Kit. There is no way IMO that the 4.30's will work. I need to get a 3.73 gear actually.

i would not run that dep of gear on a 1/4 track unless you have a high reving engine. add the spray and you are way over geared. N20 cars run better on a 3.73 and lower. the combination will work better on motor since high gears will make you quicker but you will loose mph. on the spray you better have LOTS of traction... good luck but i would run a 4.10 max with your setup... IMO... GOOD LUCK
