Default Post your stories/results from Detonating/Pre-Igniting on a big shot!

After reading Dave's post about the 28 degrees of timing and fuel pump with stock rods on a 300 shot detonating and bending the rod, I became curious..... what kind of damage have yall seen on big shots of nitrous with detonation or pre-igniting the cylinder?

I assume the list will include:

Lifted Heads
Broken Ringlands
Bent Valves
Burnt plugs
Backfires??
Lost compression

What happened to you?

Never detonated but got a little Lean
Melted number 8 plug down. Rejetted number eight and made a dozen or so more passes. I thought I was lifting a head gasket because it would push coolant out durring each run. I ran 10.oh and dyno'd over 600RWHP like this

I got a feeling compression was down on number eight

Ellis, looks like a little detonation to me; the piston tops look sand blasted a tell tale sign? Or is this just the pic?

I melted 6 of my plugs and burned 2 valves when I got greedy with the timing on a 200 shot. The porcilin came off the tip of one of the plugs and got chewed up between the head and piston.

Nope it is just the flash on the pic's. My $100 E-bay shop camera LOL.

The pistons looked great once we cleaned them up. HOPEFULLY this will clean up the high end miss I was getting. I have yet to put it through the last 200ft on juice with out breaking up. At one point we were down to 10* and below 10 ARF

i was SO glad I took the NGKs out and went to the Autolite racing plugs!

Never had any experience with detonating/pre-ignition but I had a backfire once that blue a flame out of the corner of my hood, fried my MAF, and blew apart my CAI.

I was trying to make it to thunder a few years back and got in a hurry with my car. I had a bad voltage to the injectors and on a 400 shot it was not pretty. I busted the block, took out number 6 and 8 piston and hurt the head. I felt like crying.

fill in those holes with some JB-weld, & some of those piston rings can be straightened back out.
