Default did you know........ Left on red (in Washington)

I had always understood (learned to drive in VA near DC, and Nebraska) that you could only turn "left on red" from a 1 way to a 1 way.

I know, people in washington can't be trusted to have any idea how to drive, but......

then I got into an argument with my girlfriend (who was rased in washington) about it,
and she actually prooved me wrong :scared

A steady red traffic light means stop. You must wait
until the traffic light turns green and there is no crossing
traffic before you may move ahead. If you are turning
right, you may turn after coming to a full stop if it is safe
and if there is no sign prohibiting the turn on a red light.
You may also turn left onto a one-way street with traffic
moving left after coming to a full stop if there is no sign
prohibiting turns on a red light.
Be careful of pedestrians
crossing in front of your vehicle.

this reads (to me, and anyone else I've discussed it with)
that you can turn left (from one way or two way)
as long as it's onto a 1 way

Yeah, I've always thought 1 way to 1 way only, other wise you are turning across on-coming traffic. But I've also heard of people getting pulled over for it here....

Nothing to do with one-way streets, but... I always wondered about the left turn arrows. Don't you hate it when you have green lights going straight, but you want to turn left, it's all clear but the left arrow is red! There are some intersections that say "Left on Arrow Only". I assume if that sign is not there, then you can turn left.

This means you can turn left on to a one way street that is moving to your left if it is safe

One of those rules I remember and use just like passing on the right if the car in front of you is turning left

I've seen it done where people decide at the last minute the want to turn left from the right hand lane. Nevermind if there are already cars in those lanes. I wonder what driver guide they learnt from?

If you listen to Adam Corolla, he had a 5 minute rant about turning left on a red arrow, and how he does it every time (assuming no on coming traffic). It was funny.

As a former traffic engineer, all I can say is in general, Washington's traffic signals suck!

I got pulled over once in Hawaii for passing a car on the right that was turning left. Got a ticket and everything. I was a cop turning left. I passed him very slowly. He pulls me over and asks if I'm a wise guy or something. I ssay what the hell are you talking about. He says its illegal to pass on the right in Hawaii. FYI Hawaiian cops drive their own vehicles. THey dont have cruisers over there only in places like Waikiki where the tourists are. I was on the North Shore.

Passing a turning car on the shoulder is illegal in WA.

room for interpretation there... LMAO!

As a New Hampshire cop once told me as he was writing out a ticket to my 18 year old self.
No thats just your interpretation of the law son

IT was for inspection sticker out of date. Expires on your birthday. Mine is the 20th the ticket was written on the 24th. I told him I thought I had til the end of the month. His answer is above. I stll say you have til the end of the month of your birthday. The sticker only shows the months of the year. You have to be a real ***** to give me a ticket in that instance.
