Default Help:Trans-Am Bumper

can anybody tell me what kind of plastic the 98-02 trans-am rear bumpers are made from? the side skirts are stamped with TPU. If someone has a bumper off the car that can check on the inside for the iso number/symbol.

if you have the plastic welding kit, you can use the universal rod i use that type of rod to repair all types of plastic and it sticks just fine

I'm gonna hijack here and ask a small question. Some one with a truck backed into my bumper and his hitch punctured a small heart shaped hole in it. It is the T/A shown below. What would you guys suggest for fixing this? I still have the piece that was punched out, Though it doesn't fit too well. Is there a kit to fix this? And I know nothing of plastic welding. Thanks for your help guys.

ok cool polyurathene is a non offlien plastic which means any type of repair can be used no need for adheshion promoter at all
only on TPO/TPE/TEO AND PP will need adheshion promoter
i also like to use a plastic mesh 3m sells it so does fusor, i do this..........................lightly grind the piece that is missing and the back side and the front side of the plastic

cut the mesh to size, the missing piece will stick to the mesh, then apply the repair material to the back side and then to the front side, i personally like fusor products and for this i would use the extreme plastic repair dont know the number

wait for it to dry , sand it with 120, then apply the skim coat has to be the plastic repair product line if you use fusor use their skim coat 114

sand 180 then 240

the other plastic use adheshion promoter first then the steps mentioned above

i am guessing the paint only needs to be scuffed for adhesion?

no incorrect, like i said you have to lightly grind, but if the bumper on your car is polyurathene there is no need for adheshion promoter

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but i have a similar question about the bumper.

My paint started to chip so i removed my front bumper and sanded it down. There are small grooves and high low spots on the bumper, what type of body filler do i use to make the bumper smooth?

I don't know anything about body work, this is my first time trying to do it myself.
