The official Black chroming my rims in my kitchen writeup!
I just picked this up today and started to go at it. I was contemplating for the longest time about black chroming my rims or painting them gun metal. I just didn't like that the only chrome on my car was the rims. It just doesnt fit with the rest of the car nor my theme. I found this at autozone for $16.99 its the Duplicolor Shadow Black Chroming kit. I am in the process of doing them right now and am doing one at a time. This is going to take a while lol. one thing I noticed is that if you want the rims dark youll need more than one kit that includes a can of tint and a can of clear. I am on coat 6 now and will upload pictures to show the diff. I'll also take pix at each coat so if anyone else wants to do this too they can pick the level of tint ahead of time. NOTE: the pictures are before clear coat and color might (or will not sure) change a bit upon application of the clear.
One thing I have noticed is the blueish tint the rim has taken also, not sure if thatll change with the clear going on...
P.S. the prep spray is an option extra.

I was thinking about something like this today. Is that "Black Chrome Kit" just a tinted clear? I was thinking that if I darkened clear with a little black that I could spray my chrome wheels and get a "Black Chrome" look without replacing or re-coating the rims. Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

FYI. The wheels you are working with appear to be '01+ WS6 style (Speedlines, also used on mid-'90s Firehawks). Yours appear to be the factory '01-'02 style finish, which is polished and clear-coated, not chrome. Not sure what effect that might have on the process/outcome/longevity of the kit you are using - which seems to be designed for actual chrome.

Ya I figured that after I started spraying I assumed they might not be chrome, All thats happened soo far is that It hasn't come out black chrome, more of a bluish black chrome.

i like it.... but seriously, you should have dismounted the tires man... you will not like it and to get it off the rubber is damn near impossible without damaging your new finish either with machine marks or chemical damage... been there done that

Your tape job kinda sucks bro! But the outcome of your wheels looks really cool. I agree with above post...get some day light pictures. Those are gonna look really nice on your ride! That "prep" in a can works wonders for stuff like that.
