"...BASF Glasurit Liquid Metal. The paint also goes by the name of Mercedes Design Titanium Alubeam. It is a very rare color used by Mercedes for the F800 Concept , as well as a $10,000 paint option on the NEW Mercedes SLS..."

i'm not sure if it really costs that much, but i'm getting to the bottom of it.

I'm telling you, if you find a way to put that on your car, it'll be a very exclusive, rare and noticeable color. BASF don't play...none of the Germans do I guess.

i believe you are right, Mr. Auflick. i've sent off an email and left a message with BASF and i'm gonna see if it's actually doable for blue collar folk...

oh HELL YES! $626 plus tax for a gallon! (at least what i got quoted.) for that kinda price you're damn sure that when i'm ready to take on the project, you'll be seein a liquid metal Trans Am!

but that price is without reducer or clear and hardener. still, i expected far worse damage for the paint alone.

That's great news bro. I too thought it'd be closer to a G or so. I'm excited to see this ****! Get a good quality clear (basf, sickens, glasurit, etc.),wetsand to 2000, buff with menzerna, and stand back. Should look incredible.

well before i get into it i need to prepare the car by taking precautions to PROTECT that bad *** paint job. i was thinking for the rear some 6LE dual plane splash guards would do the trick, but what about **** getting kicked up from the front tires? also, do you think it would be tacky to wrap the front bumper cover in some clear 3M protective plastic?

You could always run the splash guards up front too. As far as the film, to hell with "tacky" for a paint that expensive.

Some high end cars have 3m film for a factory option. I wouldn't personally do it because I don't daily my T/A anymore. I'd just keep whatever paint that's left over and respray any areas after it starts getting aged, like the front bumper (usually after 15k-30k miles depending on geographical location/roads/traffic). That's just me though.

i think the film sounds like a good idea in my application since i drive the wheels off my car. but if i did get another DD then i think the tape would come off.

but i had a question for you, Mr. Auflick. since you seem to know what you're doing with paint, do you think it would matter what is underneath the Liquid Metal? like if i did a black basecoat, then put the Liquid Metal on top? do you think that would affect the look at all, or does that only apply to paints like the Kameleon?

You know, I honestly don't know for sure. My guess is it wouldn't matter but I'd contact BASF. To clear things up, I'm not a paint expert by any means. I just know this is pretty much the ultimate silver one can buy. It looks like a damn video game.

Pontiac G8 Switchblade silver is pretty damn nice. Has metal flakes in it but is not overbearing. Really pops in the sunlight.
