New Paint For The SS any suggestions
OK i just found a shop to paint my car 99SS Black he said $1200.00 any color i want. First off the car is Black now but i want to go with some shade of silver. I love black but it's just too high maintenance for me LOL. I want to drive it not spend hours trying to keep it clean. Silver seems to be fairly easy to keep clean and i love the way it looks. Any suggestions on what silver? Oh and he said he could get me a new set of headlights for between $100-$150 so I'll prob get em so i won't have a shiny paint job with dingy cloudy headlights. I want to get a manta stripe but was thinking of reversing it black hood body color manta. Anyone ever seen that?of course then I'm back to a black hood maybe a flat black hood and silver manta. And i want to leave the rear panel black. Let me know what silver ya think.
Thanks guys

Are they going to do a complete color change for 1200? Or just the outside (no door jams, no under)....It just looks horrible imo if you paint the car a different color than original if your not doing a complete color change. But VSG is the only silverish color worth painting a car.

1200 is really cheap, either they are really hurting for money or you could get what you pay for.
I am not a paint guy but from what I have learned a good outside paint job is over 3k, Its a lot of work, pull bumpers, remove decals. I paid 2k for a paint job in Hawaii from a guy that was a cool dude but I got what I paid for, a so so paint job some stuff half assed, runs in the paint.
My car is in the shop again getting a 75% repaint and everything is over 6k, but that incl. a new hood that I got for less than 700. My whole front end, the sail panel and spoiler along with putting my stripes painted back on the car.
Just have it on paper for what is getting done and for how much to cver you butt.
But good luck

i agree. I'm set on silver just not sure of the shade. Thinking about sebring silver or silver ice metalic it's just a bit more blue and has more metalic than the sebring. The VSG looks good but too dark for what i want.

LOL i sure hope it does not lick *****. He is a friend of a friend giving me a good price. I've seen his work. I'm not looking for a show quailty paint job just somthing nice he uses all PPG materials . This is all he has ever done his dad ownes a shop and he's been doing it all his life he just opened up his shop a couple of months ago and trying to get the word of mouth out, the best way to do that is get some of his work on the street. He's not making much off of the job Materials come up to around $800 with the new headlights and the manta stripe my total bill is right at $1500 I'll post up some pics when i get it back.

$1200 seems way to cheap for a complete color change, I'd question that one. At my shop, if you want a real nice color change, it'd be at least $2500. Hope it all comes out good for ya

i want to see in process pics to see how much prep work is really being done because 1200 is dirt cheap. for a complete at my shop your running about 1200-1500 in materials for a production color(using standox its a bit more expensive). is he fixing any dents or any scatches? is he doing and priming and blocking? is he doing the engine bay? i understand your not looking for show quality but it just seems to be way cheaper then it should be.
