Default Camshaft Tuning

I just wanted to put a feeler out.

I would like to know how many of you would be interested in learning about camshaft tuning?

The class will be offered in video format. You will go to the EFI University website and order the class and download it on to your hard drive. Then watch the video/class at your leisure.

The class will include the following topics:

Understanding the Internal Combustion Process
Camshaft Terminology
Theory and Understanding of Camshaft Operation
Picking the Proper Camshaft
Common Camshaft Profiles
Different Manufacturers Applications of VVT Technology (GM, Ford, Honda, Toyota, BMW exc.)
Introduction to Emissions
Common Emission Terminology
Multigas Analysis
PID Terminology
PID Control Tuning
Proper Variable Valve/Cam Phasing Tuning Techniques
On the Dyno with a Multigas Analyzer
You will learn about the effects of changing the camshafts phasing and its effect on Torque Output, Emissions, A/F mixtures and Fuel Economy

The Instructors for the class will be myself and Mr. Ben Strader.

Who would be interested in this class?

Where was this class before I had to figure all this crap out by myself?

Personally, would only be interested in the tuning aspect. I already know plenty about combustion process, flow geometries, swish and swirl in the intake, flame propagation, etc.
Interest in class would be tempered by how much it costs.

Sounds interesting ... What's up Chris? Do you need a GM vehicle with VVT for some testing?

Thanks for your input!

Similar to our other classes, we start with a basic understanding fundamental knowledge. This is to be sure that all of our students hold somewhat common ground so to speak. The primary emphasis of the class will revolve around the tuning aspect. What we have done, is incorporate examples from a couple of different systems in our "on the dyno demonstration". We are using a couple of different systems to show the effect of changing the camshaft(s) phasing via ECU control while on the dyno. We are incorporating video of the vehicles on the dyno along with simultaneously showing the Laptop and Dyno screens via screen capturing software.

Have a great day!

Default L-92 VVT Mods

The L-92 GM engine has VVT (Variable Valve Timing).

The EMS can control this event, we program our '882 to
allow no "retard" below 4500 RPM, then limit to retard when activated.
This is with a stock camshaft.
Would there be an interest in more information ?

Hi Chris, we have a "Camless" EMS and control valves.
Would that be a "topic" for your class ?

Hi Lance!

Myself and Ben Strader actually had a discussion about you the other day!

We may be doing some collaboration with Comp Cams on this. We have discussed some of the testing and R&D that Comp Cams have been conducting on the Chevy and Ford Variants of VVT in regards to the stock and aftermarket camshafts.

We have discussed Camless valve event actuation. We both agree it is something that we want to do, but will more than likely leave it for another separate class.

This is something that we would definitely warrant considering some level of collaboration between the two companies.

Lance, if you would like to discuss the subject in greater depth, pm me on the efi101 forum sometime! Or, just give me a call!

Have a good day!
