Arrow DTC PO343 and PO343

Maybe someone can help me with this issue. My 2001 TA is throwing both of these codes. It is low on power and will randomly really cut out at low RPMs. Also sometimes when I go to start it, it will just crank, or crank and backfire out the exhaust with small pops. Then if I turn the key off and try again it will fire up. The tach also only works until about 2300rpm, then it will go to zero. As long as you keep the RPM under that it will come back on and work until you go over it again. If you rev the car fast, the tach will go beyond this point.

I've done some searching and have found several other people that had the same problem and symptoms as I do and none of them ever posted what their cause turned out to be.

Anyone got any input?

Either crank cam sensor or your cam bolts are coming loose. Let me know if you need me to look at it.

It was not any kind of mechanical or electrical problem. I checked everything out and all was good so I swapped in a stock PCM I had and it runs more smooth, tach works, and throws no codes. Now I need to find out why it throws both codes with the PCM that has a tune up for this setup on it. Could it be in the tune up or is it the PCM?

If anyone else runs into this problem, my cause in particular was just a bad PCM.

pull your intake and valley cover; you can see if the cam gear is loose through the front of the block; about 40 minutes of work on sloth pace

It's always better to answer when asked a question to answer with YES or NO, than MAYBE, or IT COULD BE
