Default PCM failure

Have a PCM (99 Corvette) that was controlling the engine in my race car. I believe the PCM is toast. My Tech2 will not communicate with it, and well the car won't start at all. It rolls over and never catches. If it was a distributor, I would say it sounds like it is 180 out.

I have the tune for the car, and am looking at just writing that tune on a spare ECM which is a '00 truck PCM. Ok to do this or am I going to have issues?

Anything else I should be looking for as well?

We fix PCM's and Clone PCM's to match your calibration information so you won't have to purchase additional credits

I'm having the same problem with my 98 ta. I changed my fuel pump and key switch so far chasing wires and now I'm leaning on it being the pcm also.

Did the replacment pcm fix it?

I can read the replacement PCM with my tech2. Have not tried reprogramming it, just have not got the answer I am looking for. And haven't had the time to do more with it.

Thanks. I know how that goes (not having time).

I'd like to hear if it works or not when you get a chance to work on it again. Then I can decide what I need to do to mine.

I plan on doing a little this afternoon. One thing I have been wanting to do is shorten the main wire harness. I've got about 2 feet I want to eliminate. Just got my pins yesterday.

I want to get the race car on the track before the season is done up here. You know the drill

Yeah. This holiday weekend is our last weekend too. But my car is streetable so hopefully I can drive it one more time before I have to put it away for the winter (about a month away).

2 feet is a decent amout of wire your pulling out. If I get a chance this winter I want to clean up my wiring some more also.

I haven't had much luck finding a good used PCM yet and I'm leary about the reman pcm's but it's looking like that may be my last option for me up here. I'm just waiting until after xmas to get one.
Then I'll beable to test it and see if it fixes it.

We have 2 upgrade chips that we use. 1 chip that works well for us HPT doesn't like. We have found that HPT will not read out the calibration on some PCM's. We can set the Seed & Key to all F's and it will read out the PCM and flash the PCM, but when we try to read it back out with HPT it's a no go. TunerCat and EFILive has no issue with this chip. This chip is used in other GM PCM's
The other option we are installing works great, but we have an upcharge

Intel vs amd????

Im not understanding what you mean.

The Flash prom in the ecms should only be a few different ones depending on the years.

For the year that is the op, The flash chip should be a Intel 28F400 It is a 44 pin chip. 512k files are put onto it from the factory.

The NEWER 2003 up pcm to 2007 usually uses a 28F800 or an amd one. But the amd one was only in 2003 i believe.

As for Flashing, you should be able to take any 2000-2002 ls1 ecm and flash it to anything you want as long as it is a 512k file with your tech 2. Serv numbers that end in 86 and 11 for the blue/red plug computers.

A tech 2 or EFILive should flash them with a full flash. With the starter file you have.

As for Issues Flashing depending on chips, What are the part numbers?? I have not seen this.

By putting the Seed key area to FFFF FFFF you are just putting the ecm into an unsecure state and it will not respond to the seed key request with the proper response, and then it is up to the programming software to just "Push " a erase or read action past that point. If it is non secure then it isnt locked, some software may not like that.

A Tech 2 ignores alot of things, and even tries multiple seed key algos if it fails the first one. I could go into that, but it gets pretty complicated..

So to answer the original question, A computer from a truck should work just fine to flash to the racecar.

Is your race car computer throwing ANY codes? Is it turning on your fuel pump driver output when you key on?

The op stated it won't communicate at all.
Neither will mine. I've tried my tech 2 and efi live no luck. So I can't get and don't have any codes, no fuel pump, or odometer. I've got nothing. It just cranks.

We fix them. Tom knocked out 18 in 3 hours for 1 customer that sent us a batch to fix.
We also repair the code if we can. We also remove tuner locks
