Default '98 TAHOE...VATS same as PASSLOCK ?

My Wifes Tahoe is giving a Passlock code due to a worn Key .The system shows a vats with a option to disable . Is this the same ? Can I disable the VATS / PASSLOCK & be able to start the vehicle instead of having to install a new lock cylinder in the column ?
Sorry it is a '99 if there is a diff.

Yes, they are basically the same.
Passkey is the name of the key using a resistor pellet, VATS is the name of the anti-theft module, but is the same thing, they work together.

If you have pcm tuning software then turn the VATS to none and that will get rid of the no start. You will still have the security light on because the body computer controls that. You can bypass the passlock sensor with a resistor to disable it completely. I have the link on my other pcm and can get it tommorow.

I use HP Tuners at my shop & disabled the VATS tonight ,light still comes on but goes off on start up as normal .So far all is good ,it did solve the issue & saved about $350-400 on a Ignition Cylinder Switch replacement for $ 100 .
