EFI live and HP Tuner Custom OS'es
So right now Im running the old serial HP, have been for years and years obviously. I need to upgrade for some custom OS stuff on 3 cars for this year and probably 2 more next year. My understanding of this is that it will be a lot cheaper to do that with EFI live since the custom OS is free. I was also told that all 97-98 PCM's are unlimited too, and do not require a vin credit. Another thing I was told about it is that with swapped cars I can change the vin#. I dont want to have to re-learn software but its looking more and more like EFI live is the way to go for my situation if these things I was told are true. They would essentially be the same price right now with buying HPT for $650 and an additional 4 credits for another vehicle and custom OS. Do I have my facts straight? I dont know anyone with EFI live.

We are a dealer for efi live, we also use HPT but aren't a dealer for them currently. 97-98 are free with efi but there are not custom os available for 97-98 with efi live. Custom os in efi live are free, once you license a PCM with efi you'll never have to buy any additional license. Efi is $899 with 2 license. License are $125 for additional license. The v2 can do a ton of things without a laptop. You can also download efi live demo and try it before buying it.

HP Tuners has custom operating systems(2 bar) for 97-98 LS1 pcm's.
If you are talking about swapping out the 97/98 pcm's for a newer pcm efilive WILL charge you for the license.
HPTuners licenses are generally cheaper at $100 vs efilive @ $125
EFILive is going to be alot more up front at $900 vs HP Tuners at only $650!
HP Tuners comes with 8 credits off the bat so you could tune 2 vehicles with 2 custom operating systems without having to shell out another dime vs efilive it would be $900 for the same. If you wanted to do another vehicle + custom operating system you'd be at $850 with our software vs $1025 with efilive. If you then wanted to do another vehicle + custom operating system you'd be at $1050 with our software vs $1150 with efilive. If you then wanted to do another vehicle + custom operating system you'd be at $1250 vs $1275 with efilive. And that's not even taking into account any year/model licenses you might be doing with our software(which efilive does not offer) that would be saving you additional $.
We also offer year/model licenses(which I'm sure you are familiar with) which would keep costs down if you plan on doing vehicles of the same type.
If you are considering trading up to an MPVI interface I would at least suggest contacting sales explaining your situation to see what we can do for you.

Yea I found the 2 bar OS for the 97-98's. Kind of strange only a 2 bar SD though. The swapping Vin#'s on the PCM would be ideal since I do a lot of swaps. Not to mention my current serial is unlimited 98 and 01 F body's, so I can tune any F body in reality with a simple PCM swap.
I have 3 cars right now that I need/want to use a custom OS, another build coming up in fall, and another winter. Both builds are swaps. But now that Im thinking out loud the only way that would work with efi live would be to just buy a stream.
With HP I could do another unlimited with 6 credits and then just add a custom OS to each PCM within that unlimited year/model for an additional 2 credits? Or is that entire model/year open for custom OS's?

Yeah you could do the year/model and then just do single vcm enhancement licenses at 2 credits each. Ideally you might look into just getting the gen 3 unlimited license which comes with the vcm enhancements free of charge, new MPVI comes with 8 credits, unlimited gen 3 car is 30 credits so you'd need another 22 credits which really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things and you'd be able to do pretty much all gen 3 fbodies, corvettes, etc.

97/98: no COS's, so swap to 0411 PCM and flash in the 2002 Camaro calibration file, then jump to COS3 (boost/nitrous) or COS5 (boost, nitrous, also allows alpha-N).
00/01: flash in the 2002 Camaro calibration file, then jump to COS3 or COS5.
COS's: free.
VIN: can be changed from scantool.
BCM VATS relink: can be done from tunetool for F-car.
Controller licenses: only used when flashing the first time; each license is for a PCM or ECM/TCM pair (altho they don't have to be paired).

Ive actually been looking in to how to swap the 97\98 to the 411. Sent HP an email and never heard anything back though. Right now Im just interested in the SD OS, no boost...yet. The 2 step thing is a bonus. I can change the vin from the scan tool without using a license?

I sent HP an email explaining my situation with wanting to upgrade from my old serial to the mpvi pro. Not the pcm swap, sorry that was confusing the way I wrote it. Thanks again for all the knowledge. Im still undecided...I make my mind up one day and change it the next.
