HP tuners question
If I have a car tuned with hptuners and the tuner left it unlocked.
will the next tuner have to purchase credits or will it check the hptuners database and see this vin has been paid for already,
my point is to get a cheaper 2nd tune, with a better tuner.

omg
I cannot believe the answer I got from HP tuners support here it is:
Sounds like a huge scam of a system.
How can they make people pay more than once for the same VIN.
I will hold back on my purchase based on this alone.

Next tuner would need to have a license for the vehicle.

Thanks for the reply guys, I just cannot understand the business model behind this.
Its all about making money for hptuners. and a license for a VIN belongs to the car not the cable or tuner. Im going to have my attorney (brother in law) hes a great trial atty, Take a look at this and let me know whats the deal in the licensing.
Im out looking for other tuning software.

"and a license for a VIN belongs to the car"
Not necessarily so. With retrofitting of motors into older cars a lot of things happen. Also if you want to upgrade your software say to the a newer Corvette program you will have to grab a VIN# off a new Corvette. May very well be one that someone is driving around in.

The licensing is for your particular cable and a single tune. Each company offers unlimited tuning of some sort but just because a tuner has unlimited doesnt mean they wont charge you a license fee. They basically just paid a lot of money upfront and are gambling they tune more vehicles than the unlimited license cost.

Tunercat OBD2 is very good for those, just buy it with the definition file for the operating system ("OS") your car is running, then tune 10,000 or more vehicles running that same "OS " for no further cost. One covers 2001 F body cars, one covers 2002 F body cars, etc. Buy another definition for each different "OS", which is cheaper than any license fee, and again tune all you want.
I use it every day.

For instance for $300 you get the license for the 2001 Fbody cars. We just happen to also offer single vcm licenses for $100(in addition to the unlimited vcm licenses that are mainly bought by tunershops).
