Default Screen in or screen out?

I've heard that removing the screen in the MAF is a good mod but others have said that it disrupts the flow flowing over the element causing a negative effect. Which is true?

Haha hey dave Dirk here... The screen helps with the airflow and consitency across the resistors. The only reason I went back to the screened was because i wanted to remove all variables from teh equation as possible when tuning...

Some have picked up from it other havent...

All are true, and none are true until you try it on your
own machine.

It -potentially- can change the MAF frequency / airflow
response. It depends a lot on the intake tract and it
comes down to cases.

I am running a truck MAF on an F-body with no screen
and everything is just peachy. On the other hand I am
a compulsive tuner. On the other, other hand, the MAF
needed little more than a copy of the truck table to
get right at WOT and the speed density that dominates
idle and cruise, doesn't give a damn whether there is a
screen or not.

Still, there's a lot to be said for making one change at
a time, and leaving the MAF alone until you have nothing
better to do is not such a bad strategy.
