stock 04 5.3 goes pig rich after 4500
I dyno'ed my stock 04 5.3 and it laid down 248/261 in 2nd gear... but starting at 4500 to 5800 where I let out it went big time rich, and naturally thats where my power peaked and slow dropped off. What is up with that, protection programed from GM. it went to 11.5
what can I tune with HPTuners with standard cable to fix that??
thanks

First question is, do you have cats? If so, you
will probably trash them if you turn the protection
off. Headers are not as bed because they run
cooler by the time you get to the cats but still
you may put a hurt on them.
I went and put my cats in a nice dry box so they
will be ready in case I ever need them. Then I went
and turned the COT off. Engine>Fuel Control>COT,
Lean Cruise, little button at upper left.
Now, you could also play with the max enrichment
value and make it something more reasonable for
performance (like, say, 1.15 instead of the stock
1.25, so your COT max would be the same 12.8:1
you might like for power). But this would be less
effective at protection. And COT is pretty busy on
the street (I saw it on the highway after a couple
of punches, and it hung around for a while). So if
you are running an "off road" exhaust then the easy
thing to do is just uncheck the little button.
