The stickies have a tone of useful info... and many of us here are here to help

You'll want to start by scanning your car, you can shoot me your .hpl scan files or post them up and we can figure out where to go from there.

You'll want to start by getting your fueling and spark inline ... if you have any idle issues you'll want to get those in line too... but will help once you have a scan of your car so we can see how good/bad the current tune is.

Would also help if you post your sig w/your mods

You'll be very happy w/your investment and it'll only be getting better

bin files are the actual tune file, you can go to horist's site and see what otehrs have and what you dont, it helps to pick out the little details you may miss

where can you get hptuners? I assume I can hook in up to a non-laptop computer? How much does it cost? is a laptop better? Can you also use it to scan codes? Thinking of buying a reader but if a programmer can read to then don't need a reader I'm hoping. ?

www.hptuners.com

Yes, you can hook it up to any computer that meets the min. system requirements. Read the webpage and it will answer all your questions.

Also check out www.efilive.com

They offer another program similar to HPT. Best bet is to see which is best for your needs and go that route.

what would you recomend to the bigginer tuner tinkererererere (or how ever you spell that word) would the HPTuner be a better investment, and what about the hand helds, do they cut the mustard or are they limited ( i think they are compaired to the hptuners and efilive's and such)

I have had both EFI Live and HP Tuners. I have found the guys and support with EFI live is much better, faster free updates, scanner that is unparrallel to what others offer, free custom operating systems, and the list goes on. There is a reason that many are buying live or switching from HPT to it. But each has their own preference.

Best bet is to search the forum and choose yourself... both have advantages

I've used HPT for about 1.5 years now (switched from LS1 Edit) and love it... easy to use, customer support is top notch, overall great product.

The learning curve for either program will be the same. Regardless of which program you use, the outcome will be the same. Its not necessarily the program that you have to learn, its the steps and reasoning behind it all. You can download a demo copy of live and check it out for free to get an idea of what it is about.

2.0 HP Tuners (www.hptuners.com) is also about to be released... I'm testing it now. It adds some stuff that will be helpful to newbies

I'm trying my hardest to break 2.0 right now... so far haven't been able to

customizable histograms, up to 48 PIDs logged (lower logging resolution), customizable PIDs (function based).

Much more customizable gauges (excuse the crappy look... I just messed w/it some... I'm not a very "graphical" person)

Higher resolution histogram data
Histogram Filtering for out of bound info

Full Comparison ... you can view a comparsion summary or (notice in the HPT20.JPG file... disable ECT is green... it's because there's a difference between the main and compare file) you can view via a tabbed navigation. (can compare different OS's too... like an 04GTP and 02 F_Body)

Tree style navigation or traditional Tab Style navigation
You can customize where the chart appears (if at all) wether top or right... 2d or 3d

Modification history stored with hpt file, you can detach any of the windows (great for dual monitor viewing) from the main HPT window

^^^ Editor (in compare mode, comparing a stock car to a car I modified)

^^^Scanner view

The price is the same.

VCM Suite 2.0 is just our new software build over VCM Suite 1.x which we currently ship.

I am interested in a program such as the HP tuner, or the EFI live as well.. I know nothing about tuning a vehicle's computer.

How can you tell, once you've made a change, that its really improving something? When you change something it may not be enough to notice... The software is smart enough to know it will improve or how does it show that the car is going to improve from the changes?

thanks!

RaRe99SS, the easiest way to see your changes is with our VCM Scanner product which is included with our package.

You will be able to monitor the vehicles conditions to see if its reacting to your changes as desired.

There is no answer I can give to that question that will be publicly accepted.

Horist and others are testing it and have not found any problems. There are no known bugs/issues with 2.0 .. so that should tell you something.
