Default Paging Truck guys: PCM Question (PCM Compatibility)

I've seen a few threads lately asking about the 5.3/4.8 etc... PCMs ... but I dont' have any first hand experience with them so can't offer a definitive answer..

my question is... w/F-Body's 98 is the only "different" PCM... 99-02 are all similar enough that they can be swapped around...

Is this the same for the truck PCMs? If so can someone provide a break down of the years and engines that use the same PCM?

Is there a way to cross check the part numbers and see if they are the same?? I was wondering this as well the other day but got sidetracked.

I don't have a truck parts manual but one issue I can see is GM using tons of different part numbers even though they're basically the same... like the 99-00 F-Body PCM is 1 part number, and 01-02 is another, yet they are interchangeable

Hopefully we can get a definitive answer on this... I'll then add it to the stickies as this would be good info

Mike,
To the best of my knowledge, all of the 512 kB PCM vehicles from 1999 through 2002 use the same PCM's and many of the same OS. This is true of the 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 small blocks and even the 8.1 L big block. Activation or deactivation of certain PCM features differ by vehicle as does the parameter values.

I've not seen some sort of officially published cross reference list. However, I'm sure that there are a number of folks who have this information. I would wonder if GM doesn't have some sort of listing like this for use with the Tech II.

03' and up use a different PCM.

I'll add this to the stickies thanks guys!

Yup, the '99-02 truck PCMs are the same (same part number, prior to being flashed with a calibration file) as the '99-'02 F-Body PCM ... in term of wanting to completely reflash them. The only difference is the BIN file, which leads to a different GM P/N.
