IAT sensor question--what does the computer do with IAT reading?
I know the IAT sensor reading is used by the computer to reduce timing at high air temperatures, to reduce knock. My question is, does the IAT sensor serve any OTHER purpose? Does the computer use the IAT sensor in any other way? For example, does the IAT factor into calculating the fuel mixture or fuel trims, or does the IAT change any aspect of how the automatic transmission works?
In cold weather I can tell my car drives differently as it warms up, as far as torque converter lockup and shift behavior. Is this based on IAT readings, coolant temperature readings, oil pressure, or what?
Edit: I found some posts that suggest the IAT controls (or is a factor in) determining closed loop operation. Also found some other posts that suggest that IAT is used for the power enrichment tables. Anything else?
