Default Question on Commanded AFR vs. Actual AFR vs. LTFT's

Hi guys,

I have been doing some logging for the past couple of days (and lots of reading over the winter) on my way to work. Since the weather is warming up I figured I would start working on my tune. I need to tap you guys for knowledge in a few areas...

I am seeing my LTFT's at +10.2% at 3200rpms in 4th gear. My commanded AFR is 14.6 and my actual as read on my LM1 is 14.4-15.0 fluctuating. Mostly in the high 14's.

So....

...does this mean that the PCM is having to add 10.2% more fuel to keep the engine in the commanded 14.6 AFR?

I understand there are other variables in this, but am I correct in my thoughts or am I out in left field? My LTFT's will swing at various times but so far have not gone above +10%.

I can email the log file if any of ya want to see it. Yesterdays log was all highway driving and in 4th gear for about 20 minutes with 1 OL-DR as I got on the highway.

Yep, and in turn, for that specific instance of fueling, you would considred to be running a bit lean. Fortunately closed loop fueling adapts for you, hence the trimming. The benefit is slightly better gas mileage around cruise, downside is that your trimming more than likely pulls into WOT, and might be pushing you richer than you need to be.

Good analysis!

Gotcha.... thanks for the feedback.

I am itching to try out RTACS with my RR. This seems like the perfect project.

Oh...forgot.

I am seeing an AFR of 13 to 13:1 while in PE. I have 12.5 commanded. I know...I have more work to do.

cablebandit,

my car always starts in closed mode, but after 1-2 minutes of driving it switches and stays open. Besides faulty O2 sensors what are the most probable causes for the PCM not going into closed loop?

Thanks
