Default 98 PCM Fried now what?

I have a 98 corvette and Hptuners... the PCM went goodbye this weekend. The GM dealer says they need the car with the stock PCM in it in order to pull info off of it and put it on the new one. I have heard the vins arent in the 98 PCM's. Does this mean I could go pickup the PCM and install it myself?

Vins are in the 98 pcms, Just not in the standard Bin file. They are on an eeprom.

As for the dealer needing the stock pcm, that is incorrect also.

What is the pcm doing that you think it is bad?

I have no comm. between car and PCM. No fuel pump or anything. I accidentally wrote a 2003 Z06 tune to the car.
