Default Tuning and knock.....

Just and off the wall question....Knowing what knock is....Do you think your car can be tuned lean enough to not see knock and lose power?
Tuned screwed up: A/F 15:1 no knock
Tune corrected: A/F 12.8 with knock

Default Re: Tuning and knock.....

For any mixture and cylinder pressure, there is
a maximum advance you can run before knock. In
general leaner tolerates less advance because it
burns faster, and can make cylinder pressure before TDC instead of all after. The example seems
screwy but you could make it happen with higher
advance on the "corrected" and low advance on the
"screwed up" case.

Combustion speed decreases both for very rich and
very lean mixtures. It is possible that a super
lean charge could be sparked without knocking
at an advance that would knock, with proper mix.
But this isn't where you want to play.

Default Re: Tuning and knock.....

jimmy blue has said it eloquently. You may be able to pick up more power leaner and without knock if it is done right. There is a fine line to walk when calibrating the spk and AFR, every car is different. GOOD LUCK!!
