Antenna questions - taking out power antenna and installing camaro unit
First off, I appreciate any help in advance.
So, like most, my 1998 WS-6 antenna motor died, makes noise, no go. So I want to just install the non power camaro unit in its place, I like the stock look and dont want to waste $100 or do the univeral or the bitviper fat short one.
Here is where I get confused. I just figure Id order the camaro base, and mast. Well looking at gmpartsdirect.com, they have the following options for a camaro:
Antenna mast, Antenna power, Bezel, Cable, Mast
What all do I need? (My thought was Antenna mast and bezel). Why is antenna mast an option for $10, then Mast power also an option for $33? What is the cable?
I really appreciate any feedback on this!

Scroll down on that same page and view the illustration and it will show a diagram and you can click on each link to each piece to buy, I would think you would need all of it minus the cable of course.

If you just want a solid antenna, buy one out of a junkyard for almost free. I would think if the hole is the same size, any GM would work.
FWIW, my power antenna crapped out a couple of weeks ago. The $30 GM replacement (PN 10256439) was easy to swap, and the power antenna now works quietly.

As far as wiring, you'll need 12v and a ground to power the antenna. You will also need a 5v signal wire to raise and lower it. I assume the stock Camaro radio will not have this feature, but maybe it does. Aftermarket HU's have a signal wire.
My guess is that this project is very doable.

Thanks!! Perfect, I was blind and didn't see. Yes, looks like I need all except the cable. Not sure where to get that mast retainer nut, guess I'll look at that when the other pieces come in.

Alright guys and gals. I managed to find a power unit out of a 1994 bird. The bracket is different than the one in the picture above but I was able to bend it and drill new hole in the car bracket to make it work. Problem is the motor is great. Goes up, goes down. Minimal noise. Now, problem is the mast itself. The plastic ribbon is too short. I assume at one point or another it broke. I ordered a new one from GM parts direct. 50 damn dollars mind you. Question is, how do you install it? Do you just make the motor wind out like its making the antenna go up and put the ribbon in and let it go back down? Or do you have to take it apart? Thanks.

The method on the instruction sheet didn't work for me. I had to open the case and remove a 3" long piece of the old tooth gear.
Not a problem, though. Just break off the plastic **** that hold the motor/gear case together. After removing the broken tooth gear piece, I cleaned the inside and re-lubed with white lithium grease. Then drill new pilot holes and reassamble with teeny screws.
