got freaked out earlier tonight
I went to go start the beast to let it warm up a little beforei went in to work tonight, and when I cranked her over I heard a loud thud andit stopped cranking. It felt and sounded like the motor just seized and it scared the **** out of me. So I try again and there was no sound for half a second then all of a sudden it fires up. Idk Wtf was up with it or why it did it but I'm glad it started
Its been raining really heavy the last 8-12 hours and my car is parked outside. Idk if the rain might have done anything or just a random coincidence but if anyone else ever had anything similar to my experience can you please chime in on what u found out or if it went away please lemme know

Most likely what happened was water drained onto the top of the engine from the WS cowling and got past a leaky seal someplace into the intake manifold. Luckily you dodged a bullet this time. I'd be sealing the WS cowl and tightening the intake bolts before the next rain...................If enough water gets in it will hydro lock the engine and most likely ruin the block.
I've seen this ruin MANY LS1 cars engines. Next time it rains open your hood and watch the water running over the intake.

well if i open the hood and watch water land on the intake and there is a leak wouldnt that in theory do more damage than just having the hood closed?

Say what? I meant you will see it running off the WS cowling. good luck, I'd fix this soon if you like driving your car. I think you ALMOST hydro locked, next time you might not be so lucky.

There's a few places around Gadsden that sells the aluminum carports for a couple hundred bucks. You could also make your own for a bit cheaper. There's a place in Hokes Bluff behind the 278 Restaurant that sells aluminum roofing materials for cheap. If you don't have the room for that, buy a cover with the way it's been raining in the area.

Ok open the hood when its raining and you will see its leaking water where the black plastic cowling meets the metal frame work above the engine. You need to seal all along that AND all the plastic rivets that hold the plastic cowling in place. Good Luck
DO IT SOON................
After you seal it test it with a water hose...............
Then buy beg or borrow a inch lb torque wrench and tighten ALL the intake bolts to 89 inch lbs...........

Part 21 here. It goes on the edge under the wipers. When the hood is closed, it's up against it. Called "hood seal".
Some people take it out to allow air to more easily flow out of the engine compartment over the engine to keep things cooler.

Water doesn't compress! I bent my rods in my Evolution 8 like this.
One morning coming out to warm her up. My alky injection nozzle went south and let a bunch of H2o and Meth into my cylinders. When I went to crank...boom!
It was kinda hard to get started but she sputtered and fired up!
I shut it off immediately as I knew the moment she cranked that liquid was trying to be compressed but it was too late! Sounded awful and vibrated like crazy. Damage was done!

My Formula started funny one morning after it rained, I found the intake bolts were loose and the cowling was letting water run all over the intake when it rained.
I sealed the cowl and tested it with garden hose. It leaked so many places it wasn't even funny, took me quite a bit to seal all the leaks I found. The cowling leaks, the plastic rivets leak and even under the rubber seal needs sealing!
I can tell you this much the sound of the engine almost locking up will get your attention fast.
After it rains its a good idea to check it a few times to be sure you stopped all the water leaks. GM really really REALLY dropped the ball on this mess. That rubber seal under the edge of the hood does NOTHING to stop the water that collects on the cowling its attached to! ITS INSANE!
