2000 Trans Am exhaust question????
Not sure where to post this. But i have a 2000 Trans Am with the ls1. Just got my headers and am planning on running them with the stock cat back. Anyone else done this? Just looking to get a little better sound out of it. Does anyone have a video of a car with a similar set up? Thanks

I'm with HCI2000SS not sure why you would want to fork up the money for headers and then run stock exhaust.. I don't think you'll find anyone else running that set up but you can check this thread out if you haven't already for ideas

Just did headers to delete the converters on my car. Everything I have read says that the stock manifolds are really restrictive. I have a friend that put a cat back on his ls1 camaro with the converters and it didn't sound any different than mine does now. And didn't want to spend the money on the cat back and headers at once. But I guess if it's not worth doing headers with stock muffler I'll have to look into a cat back. Just don't want anything crazy loud that will have people grumbling over it.

if the goal is just to delete the cats, thats what the "off-road" y-pipe if for, just have to find one that works with the headers you want.
but if you can't afford to do it all at once start with the cat-back first then do the headers later, headers cost far more then the cheaper cat-backs, Keep in mind you are NOT limited to just LS1 cat-backs, you can use LT1 cat-backs and just cut the s-bend off the I-pipe to meet up with the y-pipe in the tunnel and swap some hangers. I picked up the Hooker LT1 cat-back brand new off Advance Auto website (searching by the part number) for like 320 (using a 50 off promo code), which i'll bet is cheaper then those headers.
you gotta think, what good is increasing the flow at the start of the hose if the flow in the rest of the hose still sucks. also going Cat-less will give you rasp.

Sorry. Guess I didn't say I ordered a set of bbk long tubes with the off road y-pipe. Looking more for sound now more than performance. Just wanted to see what it would be like until I bought the cat back.

Thanks everyone. I'll eventually do the cat back. But for now I'll try running with stock muffler. I'll update it as soon as I can get it all hooked up.

My set up will be the same. Stock muffler replaced with a magnaflow otherwise 1 3/4 headers, tsp ory, into the stock catback with the magnaflow muffler.

Got the headers on last week. Mounted up with no issues and matched to the stock cat back perfectly. Great sounding and not to loud. Will eventually do a different muffler, but for now I'm leaving the stock one.
