Gold 98

Gold 98
How unusual is this color for the 1998 Trans Am ??
My father in law just picked up a bone stock with 72K, auto, and only tinted windows to match the T tops.
Just a really clean, well maintained, F-body..IIRC he picked it up for 7500 ish
Its a bit of a pooch but he knows the potential that lurks so I'll probably inherit the task of helping him do exhaust/cam/converter and drag radials..

I've seen 2 listed for sale in the greater Atlanta area over the past few years, it has to be among the least desired colors. I'm pretty sure 98 is the only year I've ever seen that had the gold color.

http://www.transamworld.com/1998-breakdown.htm this seams to confirm 98 as being the only year for the gold color. If I'm reading it right there where 244 Trans Ams but it also came on the base Firebirds and Formulas.

I like the SGM color very much. Certainly not something you see every day. The price was certainly right for a rare color as long as the car is in decent shape like you stated. Post some photos when you get it done.

Thanks for the responses guys...some great info in that link
My father in law will be happy to hear that the info he was given was true and not just some sales pitch garbage.
When looking at that breakdown, it dawned on me that an old high school buddy from the late eighties had owned; and may still, a 1998 bright purple Trans Am. Also a pretty rare color but I can NOT for the life of me remember if it was the WS6 or not....if so, his being A4 would be one of four....
I'll definitely try to steer my wife's pops to this site for info and we'll get some pics up too.

I've got a picture laying around somewhere of the 1 of 1 '98 SGM 1LE WS6 Formula, as well as two of the 7 SGM WS6 'verts (one w/ a black top, the other w/ a white top). I've spotted one w/ a white top locally years ago, on 3 different occasions. Rare birds indeed.

Update...father in law getting really close to spending well more on upgrades to this car than he paid for it...LOL
Trans getting rebuilt locally by ATD in Germantown (famous for Hipster's brake) and a 3600 stall converter to help the anemic 2.73 gears and DRs
Off road headers, Y pipe, and exhaust
Trick Flow CNC 215 heads combined with a 228/232 sized cam
lifters, chain, pump, push rods, FAST 92 with 36 pounders and cable TB
Should be a real hoot helping the near retiree convert from old school muscle to the superior LS architecture......he wants an eleven second car at least until the rear end decides to exit stage left.......

A.R. Shale Targa, holy crap!! He's going to town on that one. Makes my 'stock' guts hurt.
SGMtransam, that's a beauty. Now if you could just get rid of your state's front license plate requirement. Man, that interrupts the sweet lines of that front end.
