Talking 99 Trans AM, LS1 or LQ or?

Hi Guys!

Absolutely new to this forum thing so if I screw up like post this when I shouldn't have or wrong forum etc please be kind?

Here is my dilemma, Not too long ago I purchased a 99 Trans Am, LS1, A4, Flowmaster exhaust because of a wild hair. Several weeks later I noticed a knock coming from the bottom end. I was crushed... After watching many youtube videos and the help in these forums, I pulled the engine tranny etc from the car. While dismantling everything I noticed that one of the bolts from the torque converter to flywheel was loose. I just shook that off. I tore down the engine to bare block. I could not find a spun rod or any bad bearing etc!!! Then I looked up the sounds that a loose bolt on a torque converter would make and.... OH GOD! So apparently I went thru all this process over a loose converter bolt.

So... Since the engine is all tore down, Shall I build a stroker 383 out of it? Or go with an LQ block and stroker 408? I want a bad-*** street ride that I only drive on the weekend or when the weather is good. Probably wont take it on very many long distance trips. Maybe see a dyno or drag strip once in a great while. I'm kinda wanting something with at least 500rwhp N/A and be able to beat my friends 2015 Mustang GT500.

Any Comments or questions or ?

Thanks guys, will be glad to hear some great expert opinions!!!

I wouldn't say I'm an expert but if you have the engine out most guys on here would say, depending on your budget, more cubes the better.

If 500whp is your goal a stroker 408 is probably going to be your best bet with the right top end.

Thank you so much Masochist, for a while I figured no one wanted to bother with this thread.

So I was thinking

pump gas, N/A
408 lq with flat top 3cc pistons (forged crank, rods, pistons)
slp lid
Ls3 intake manifold with stock 41lb injectors
CNC ported ls3 heads 68cc (will this make about 11:1 compression?)
rockers? IDK
upgraded springs to handle a larger cam (springs to get idk?)
cam? IDK
Rebuild 4l60e with trans go kit and all the bells and whistles rated 650-700hp
Ceramic coated pacesetter headers (1 7/8 or 1 3/4?)
qtp y cutout after headers
x pipe to dual exhaust to the quietest non restrictive mufflers I can find

Want a weekend warrior that the girlfriend can drive if ya know what I mean.

Definitely would go with the 408, depending on what you're willing to spend and what hp range you are shooting for.

It really all comes down to budget. Fast cars aren't cheap.
