Power Antenna
Hey guys my power antenna just died out on me on my 98 Trans Am. Anyone know where I can get a quality gm one or one like it without paying the GM price? Thanks

I couldn't see spending the GM price, so I bought a universal one from AutoZone. I believe it was less than $30 bucks. It's got a nice chrome tip and "trim ring", so it looks good if you've got chrome or polished aluminum wheels. I installed mine in November of 2003, and it's still working just fine. It's lasted longer than the GM one did

I'll do ya one better than that: mine died too and since I could see myself replacing the replacment down the road I reverted back to a non power antenna. I went thru gmpartsdirect.com and got the base and mast for a non power f-body(camaro) and it works great. When I cover my car I just unscrew the mast...less than $25

Why not just put a switch inline with the power antenna signal wire and then you won't burn your antenna up so fast because it will only go up when you want it.
I put a switch in mine and used a convertible top switch plate and rewired the convertible top switch so it is now an on/off type instead of a momentary contact.
It works great, looks stock, and only goes up when I want it to.

A friend of mine and I just swapped my oem power antenna out for a Kragen one. Autozone sells the very same one and even though the part number may have a different beginning than the Kragen one, they both end with PW22. We were able to use the oem antenna bracket, bezel and antenna motor vent tubing. We also cut the antenna wiring harness from the oem antenna, spliced the wires from the new antenna and soldered them with oem antenna connection. I forgot to mention that there are two different antenna kits that are sold, one comes with a double female sided antenna plug and one doesn't. The one you'll need is the kit that comes with the double sided female antenna adapter.
