better make sure the Coolling fans are working properly, and the heater core is not clogged. I had one of those V6s before, Not the best choice for a winter car. One RWD, two no power what so ever, and Three Worse or same MPG as a V8.

Third gen F-Body's are great cars...but just be careful in inclament weather...they aren't the best of handlers....

Welcome to the f-body family!

You can get a Chiltons or Haynes manual on eBay for like $5! Not necessarily the best books ever written, but they are somewhat helpful.

I don't think you'll have much of a problem handling the 3.1 How to maintain it? Umm...just like any other vehicle. Regular maintence. It's a good car as long as you take care of it. Thirdgen.org will have a lot of info for you. There is a V6 section for the 2.8/3.1

I prefer RWD over FWD or AWD in the winter, but that's just me. I've lived in Minnesota all my life and we get lots of snow.

You might want some blizztak studless snow tires. They made a world of difference on my old 94 V6 bird in the winter.
