Default 1979 trans am ls1 swap

Hi everyone I just joined the forum. I am 19yrs. old and a college student. I own a '79 Trans am WS6 and a 1972 Chevy C-10. I am currently rebuilding the Trans am. The only thing I don't like about the car is the it has the oldsmibile 403 engine in it. I would like to use this car as my daily driver when it is done. I want to swap in a ls1. I think it would be more efficient and easier to work on. I think it would have better road manner as well. Also I just love the lsx engines. I know it may be costly but I will be building it over time and I will sell the other engine and parts for more money. How hard would it be to swap in a ls1 into my trans am? How do I do it? Does anyone have any information on this swap? I want to know everything I need to know to put this engine in my car. Any information or advice will be appreciated. Thank you

it's been done before... basically, you'll need the motor (complete with harness), a tranny, a crossmember, motor mounts and some other stuff.

i've seen LSx motors in everything from 3rd gen f bodies, to BMWs, to Trucks.... it can definitely be done.

If you want something that's easy to work on, either keep the 403 and build it up or get a Pontiac 400. An LS1 swap into a 2nd gen is VERY expensive. You'll have to get a custom built subframe so that it will fit.

The 403 really has a bad rap. It's not a bad motor, it's just not as buildable as the 400 is. 403's are dirt cheap so you wont get much for if you sell it. They go for around $500-750 pretty regurlary.
