Help me out!!! Cam Options VRX5 vs. Torquer V.2
Hi guys
I'm really on the fence about which of these cams to go with for my cam swap. I'm hoping to get this done before winter hits, and am having a little trouble with the task. My main candidates are the VRX5 and TQV2. I know plenty about both cams, but just wantd some solid insight from those who may have or had either one of the cams.
My car is my daily driver, but I've driven big cam cars (G5x3) in the past; so I can deal with the minor adjustments it takes to "learn" a particular cams driving characteristics. I really love the way the VRX5 sounds as well as it's lift/duration profile. Idle quality sounds awesome, and I've read that not a lot of ppl lose many mpg's.
Both cams are solid contenders with many proven accolades in the realm of LSX. Both have nice sounding voices (idles), and are relatively around the same in lift/duration. Thoughts?? Ideas?? Opinions good and bad.. are all greaty appreciated.
Thanks

my v.2 put down 431/407. The v.2 will make more power under the curve. If I was planning on doing heads and intake, I would gotten the vrx5. But the v.2 has a little more grunt in lower rpms. these cars are a good 300+lbs heavier than f-bodys.

Cody Do you have a video of your car idling? I've got the same exhaust setup as you, and if I decide on the v.2 that will give me a general idea on how it'll sound; given each tune and motor is different.

I lost some mpg's with my ms4.... rolling an avg (mostly hwy too) 14-19mpg before cam swap I was 18-24 per tank, low avg's would include the spirited driving.
I don't think you could go wrong either way. But what was posted up above about making power in the lower rpm's may be a deciding factor for your build. You daily drive (as so do I, so take this with a grain of salt), making power way up high in the power band is a lot of revs on the engine and wear on the life of the engine/drive train. The 05+ auto trans (yours even being a bit stronger than my 04) with out building it up besides the recommended stall & cooler at the bare min, will also be spinning at very high revs too. My recommendation would be do what you want but, if I were to do it again with my current position in life, I would only put in the cam I have if I didn't have to depend on it to daily drive. I make my power up very high, good for the track but thats about it. I plan on getting another beater to DD and keep builder the goat for rec purposes so that played in my decision.
Good luck with what you decide and the idle of either is ****.

Thanks for the compliments bro! You are going to get a lot of stares like, that 4banger shouldn't sound like that!
Back in 09 I dd the goat for 4months, I was in between gas savers. I will say this, if I ever have to do that again I will switch out catbacks for magnaflow. I was getting complaints from the condo ***. for being to loud at 6am. (which I agree) And the shakyness got old quick. Now she is a Sundays best car.
You already driven a cammed f-body so you should know what kind of choppy/smooth idle want.

Oh, I love loudness man. Shakiness.. that's not an issue to me.. Cops are pretty good at those who have large cammed/loud cars around my town. My T/A was near "open headers" loud at WOT. I was originally going to get Spintech, but then at the last second switched to Corsa Sport, I like the lack of drone, the sound really came awake after some LT's. I'm anxious to hear how she'll sound with the V.2 jammed between her thighs.
