Default '04 GTO.. I'm wanting 05-06 exhaust, whats it going to take?

I'm a new GTO owner and am still unfamiliar with the cars and how the exhaust is set up. To my understanding, I'll obviously need the back bumper from an '05 or '06 along with the insert and an '05 catback obviously.

Now I plan on getting longtubes and a catted mid pipe when doing my exhaust. I know in order to have the '05 style duals I'm going to need an '05 style mid pipe correct?

But will the '05 mid pipe work with '04 ls1 headers? I dont know how the collectors look. Are the ls1 and ls2 collectors the same?

and also, with the new mid pipe, will this eliminate the stock resonators?

Most of the LT's are the same, it is the mids that are different. Just make sure the mid pipes are for 05/06 GTO's and have the same style (slip fit or bolt together) connections to mate up with the LT's you get. The 04's have the same cast iron manifolds as 05/06 GTO's, but different stock mids and cat back though...
You will need to have a hanger fabbed/welded to the passenger side rear to hang the muffler on. You can use the 04 rear bumper and cut the passenger side out, someone makes a kit for it.
The new catback will eliminate the resonator.

Gotcha. I'd rather just get the 05 back bumper.. looks way better. Can I not get a passenger side hanger for the muffler at the dealership? Aren't they just bolt on?

I'm partial to the single side exhaust as it looks more in line with the Euro-look the $33,000 car was made for but even if I wanted to go split I'd keep the '04 bumper and put the insert in it. It will be cheaper (so you can buy more real go-fast parts) and it won't have the cheesy embossed GTO on the bumper. That's one thing they did that cheapened the car and made it more like a kid's Grand Am. Look up some pictures of modded '04 bumpers.

Ya, that's the beauty of owning one. You can make it any way you want. This concept is a nice one

They are welded on and any exhaust shop can do it. Just need some scrap tube or round stock to use.

He is a pic of my set up. I am running Pacesetter Headers with 05-06 midpipes and a Spintech catback w/ H-Pipe. I am partial to the 04 Bumper with the dual dual look. HAHA

^FFFASTGTO mine looks basically the same as yours. I need those PFYC inserts though to really make it look good. I prefer the look of the modded '04 bumper to the '05-'06.
Here's mine.

To be honest I bought mine like this, but it was something I was going to do anyways. I actually haven't done anything to mine but add the '06 tails and an SLP MAF. I paid $9200 for it with 62,xxx, full bolt ons, SAP bumper and grills, and Hurst shifter. Not a bad deal eh?
Back to the bumper...there's a template you can print off and stick to your bumper and you just cut around that. I saw it on ls1gto before I bought mine and it looked fairly simple.

This is the thread on the other gto site where I frequently hang out, same user name, very easy to do in the driveway with a dremmel! Some pay for the pfyc however to make them perfect you have to paint and mold them so that's extra $$

Initially I bought 05/06 mids ($100) and used 05/06 Corsa sport ($500) rocked that for a year then I bought used kooks with catless mids ($800) and the Corsa is really sick nasty now!

I like the stock '04 look. I also like what others have done with running duals that has the passenger side hidden. Still uses the '04 bumper with one cut out but having the other side dump right under the bumper. From the back, you can't tell its any different but underneath, its duals all the way to the bumper. Very trick.

Can't find the pics anymore

Can't find any pictures of outside of the car, but you get the general idea.

I like it.
