First Autocross experience (pics!)
Thanks to my cousin's husband, I found out that the Madison Sports Car Club was running an all-day Auto-X school on Mother's Day for $10. The class was pretty good, but basic. More fun were the practical exercises and then the actual auto-x we ran in the afternoon. MORE than worth the money. This was definitely more fun than the dragstrip... I think I may have a new addiction.
I think more than anything I was surprised by the huge variety in cars that showed up. There was everything from Vettes to high-dollar sports cars to a whole bunch of Dodge Neons and SRT-4s.
If anybody gets the opportunity to try it, I highly suggest it. My cousin brought out a bad-*** Nikon D900 with a telephoto lens to get these (IMO) great shots.
My cousin's dad brought out his Mazdaspeed6. I gotta tell you, that was a pretty bad-*** car. I wouldn't mind having one for a DD.
My cousin brought his weekend toy, a Mazda Miata. Say what you want about alleged heterosexuals driving Miatas, this thing is pretty highly modified and an absolute beast on the auto-x track.
Finally, by far the most expensive car (hell, the most expensive three cars) at the event... a Panoz Esperante.

autox/road racing is WAY more addicting then drag racing. and now you know, road racers last longer then 10 seconds.....
$10 for an entire day? did you mean 100? if not, thats rediculously cheap.
miatas might be good for an autox, but driver for driver, youll absolutely rape them on a real track.

Looks like fun...I'm getting ready for my second time out....
For the past 2 months all I have been doing is prepping the car, from oil changes, alignment, bushings, and new equipment, all for the rewards of going faster and safer through the corners!
The most fun is learning to drive the car to its potential.!

Ten32 welcome to the fun, frustrating and extremely rewarding world of autocross. You don't have to go all the way to Madison to race there are 4 really good clubs in the Chicago/Milwaukee Area: There is both the Chicago and Milwaukee region SCCA, Tri-State Sports car Club and WAI.
