5th Gear on the track

5th Gear on the track
Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question...
I heard from a buddy (which doesn't necessarily mean it's correct) that it's not good to go WOT in your overdrive gear(s).
Do you 6-speed guys have any concern with running WOT in 5th gear on the track?
I realize that 3.42 is arguably the ideal rear gear ratio for a road course (from a versatility standpoint), however I still have 4.10's in the rear. Anything over 125 mph and I'm getting into 5th for a while on the higher speed tracks.
I'll eventually change it, however the 4.10's will be in there for my next few track days.....one of which will be on the banked oval at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Knowing I'll have plenty of time there above 125 mph I just wanted to understand if that will cause additional stress to the tranny.

I've always wondered how my car would feel swapping from 3.42 to 3.73 and using the mn12 gear set with the shorter 5th gear so the car would pull in 5th. It would accelerate quicker for sure, but the more important question is would I be shifting too much and nullifying the gains. For what it's worth, speeds for 4th and 5th gear with that set up and a stock height tire would be 132 and 157 at 6500 rpm.

3.42 seems to be the way to go. The 4.10's are awesome on the street but are way too busy on the track. Now that I actually know how to drive several of the tracks around here I believe eliminating those extra shifts would knock seconds off of the lap times.

Sorry, I should've been more clear. That line in my reply to "79 T/A" should read something like this...
"The info you posted above regarding 5th gear in the MN12 is good to know. Now my desire for the M12 gear set is just one more goody on the long-term "want list"."

No, I don't have the M12 trans -- wish I did.

Only one track around me I got to 2nd gear, the corner is 120*. When I get on the gas it destroys the rear tires. 3rd is probably faster I bet, but its fun.
3rd and 4th with a 3.42 will get you around 99% of all tracks.
This is a fun little track in La. Made for Miata's and 944's, not my turd.
