Default Here are the head cross section pics

The ones towards the top are the exhaust port and one towards the bottom are the intake. There are also a few of practice combustion chambers.
Enjoy!

There isnt much more fun in life, than destroying things with a fiber bladed compound saw. This time I can call it "educational"

Nice! What casting # are these? Looks like the
short side has a nice radius so I guess they are
not the LS1 heads?

These are '98 heads. So I guess the worst casting for the LS1? Does anyone have some good CNC pics for me to use? Preferably 241 casting. Mainly I would like to see how the CNC unshrouds the valves, and the short side Rad.

Great shots! Thanks for the cross sec pics (I hope you don't get fired for cutting up a good set of heads )

so, taking one of yur pics here, is it safe to remove the bump (red circle)?

What about doing anything around the blue circle?

Thanks.

You now see what I have been saying in other posts about the bump just behind the valve guide- the water jacket is right under it, just blend it into the rest of the port. You see how you have the mark done through the port, take that amount out and only that amount. Another thing is you can take material out around the guide boss itself just remember to keep the shape flowing with no abrupt turns, dips or high spots.

Nice illustration. I appreciate that. Its basically as I thought. But I would have probably taken out more. See I guess that cross section pic did actually do some good.

Thanks

Oh as far as getting fired for cutting up a good set of heads........ I dont even work in the automobile industry. I am a Project Manager for a design/build firm. Those are some extra heads I bought with the intent of practicing on and not even making it to the car. As well I do alot of metal work/welding in my spare time. So I have all the equipment necessary to destroy a fair amount of stuff.
