When ever I try staging the car and free reving it the intake elbow collapses and chokes the system. Does anyone else have the same problem with their STS kit. Even if I take the car on the freeway and set the rpm's high the elbow does the same thing I'm not sure if this is normal or what?

 

The intake elbow to the actual turbo, or the intake portion of the throttle body?

 

I've seen it before, its the elbow on the throttle body right? The engine is trying to suck in more air than a 2.25" pipe and small turbo will allow. Under load I don't think it happens as much. It may happen a little untill the turbo starts pushing a large volume of air.

 

Yes its the elbow to the throttle body. I tried putting a new filter on and it helps a little bit, but still if I take it up in rpm's with out giving it gas it collapses. Would it be a good idea going to a 3inch pipe up to the elbow?

 

this happens to me as well. whenever i rev it using the tb cable, it sucks the elbow in. i'm eventually gonna just fab up a pipe to replace the elbow, that should fix the problem! when under boost also, the elbow blows up like a balloon!

 

Make sure to make a few of them because I need one too

 

When I used My 60-1 turbo it would suck in, then I put a T-70 on and it all but went away. I'm also runing 2.5" pipe. I would try to disconnect the coupler at the turbo, and see if the turbo is the restriction, ot the small diameter pipes. If the pipes are the cause get custom bent 2.5" pipes I paid $385 from a kick as muffler shop that mandrel bends the pipes.

I tried taking off the filter and that seemed to help it a lot better. My guess is that filter is causing part of the restiction. I'm just surprised that no one else posted these issues.

 

AKA turbo lag....

 

How much boost are you making? I was having that problem when I had a loose clamp and my boost was bleeding off.

 

I'm making about 10.5 on a 13.05 lb spring. I have a small exhaust leak at the collector gasket. I wouldn't think that would cause this issue. My guess is that it just takes to long for air to reach the TB in time.

AKA: lag... Been said that the rear mtd stuff is as much as .9 sec behind a ft mt...

 

I wouldnt let that turbo spin against no restriction. The turbo will reach extreme rpms.

 

Check out the sts camaro on Bob's site of epp. I think that camaro had the same problem but I forgot what they did to remedy the situation.
