Default Morel link bar lifter question

I've got a set of morel link bar lifters and im not sure the part number as they came in a cam motion box from summit during 2021(covid).
I noticed a discoloration on two sets of the lifters on the upper body. It looks like heat to me, what are your thoughts?

Looks like corrosion, could just wipe off with scotchbrite. I’d be more concerned about the scoring unless the picture makes it look worse than it is.

Definitely not corrosion and wont come off with scotchbrite either as I just tried. It looks like heat.

Heat would have a rainbow effect, yellow, gold, blue, purple. Maybe try a wire wheel instead?

Interesting, possibly black rust? I would think if you had that much heat in a lifter bore the block would be junk.

those marks are right at the lifter plunger, wondering if it was a sticking plunger?
that part also doesn't ride on the lifter bore
I believe these are the 5290 lifters and have read something about a 6500 rpm limit. They have seen 7300 rpms a few times

I think you’d know if it was sticking? There would be something audible more than likely? I feel like that’s not a heat mark with the pattern it’s showing. It would bother me too not knowing what it was.

I would def not use those. The scoring is significant and the heat is the by product if the scoring. You probably got lucky tearing it apart when you did. Buy Johnson's, forget Morel. I wouldn't use their stuff in my lawnmower.

I would run the regular 2116's, not the low lash if you intend to put a lot of street miles on it. Not that the low lash is death on the street, but the preload has no mercy and needs to be spot on.

I've had good results with Johnson 2116LSRs. 12,000 miles on the ones in my Camaro, about 16,000 miles on the ones in my Corvette. 7500 rpm pretty often in the Corvette.
