Default 400 RWHP on a bolt on LS1 with a cam. Is it possible?

Perhaps I should specify. I am looking to do the full bolt ons sometime to my Formula in my sig (whisper lid, some form of intake possibly FAST, Kooks LT's, ORY, Magnaflow catback). Along with the bolt ons, I would like to also install a cam. Nothing TO big as this is my DD, and the wife drives it from time to time. I was thinking along the lines of a MS3 cam. All of this with a good dyno tune. Is 400 RWHP possible with this? Or will I need to go with a little more agressive cam to get me there?

I would like to stay with some form of this combo, as in, I don't really want to get aftermarket heads as well. Any suggestions? Or thoughts?

To give you an idea. My old set-up put down over 420rwhp with a t-rex cam, midlength headers, full bolt on's. thru an auto with a 4000 stall, 12 bolt, with 28inch slicks!

The T-Rex cam is a little more agressive than the MS3 cam, but through an auto thats pretty impressive!

dude, MS3 is huge if you want to let your wife drive it. Get a 224/228 or so, which will idle like stock and make 400rwhp or damn near it all day long.

for comparison, i made 432rwhp with a 232/234 cam. thats above average, but shows how easy cam only LS1s make 400wheel

i recommend my old cam, a torquer 2. I had a 113lsa torquer and it idled sick, and made great power. If you have 241's, you can expect right at 400 on the money. That is what most bolt-on cars(other than 98's with crap 806's) make with that cam. And she can still drive it, heck, untuned it's possible, even with a/c on

You're near my area where did you get it tuned at? I'm thinking of getting that cam.

I'd say the ms3 will get you there though

i would go with the boltons that you have planned, with LS6 heads and the Vindicator cam from Vengeance Racing...that should put you OVER the 400whp mark...but if nothing else get ahold of RON at Vengeance Racing...he can help more

are you serious? he said his wife wants to drive it, a Vindicator? That ****** doesnt even fit with the recommended tolerances yet it fits the bill for his wife to drive?

you dont need all that cam for 400rwhp. in fact, unless youre all out race, its a bad choice.

ok, so what the hell does that have to do with the Vindicator?

your numbers are weak for such a big cam and an M6. I made almost 50rwhp more with less cam.

it says headers/cam=385 how is that pre cam? whyd you even put them in your sif if theyre "pre tune" ?

anyway, what does that have to do with the Vindicator? i only get pissy bc youre pointing this guy in the wrong direction telling him to go Vindicator. you dont need such a large cam for a driveable 400rwhp f body

wasnt trying to misslead him or anybody else...sig has been changed as per your request lol...i was just trying to say that with decent bolt-ons the Vindicator cam has shown to put down over 400whp that way..whatever rear end he chooses to go with he still should have his magic 400whp ....that's all

yea, but wouldnt you agree the Vindicator is "extreme" ?

I dont think he needs all that if he only wants 400wheel. I think something in the high 220s or low 230s could get him there. It got me well beyond..

I agree that you don't need a huge cam to hit 400rwhp anymore. Just make sure to use quality components that are matched to each other. I think a 228ish, under .600 cam will get you there with the right supporting parts...
