Ron, I was going to ask you what "real" difference there would be going from the VRX2 to the VRX3 or VRX4. My old cam was very similar to the VRX2.

Check my sig. I have an amazing cam. As you can see with my mods I am almost at 400 with less than full boltons and cam. It is definitely possible.

My car made 401 on a mustang dyno with the s cam 238/242 605/610 lid some cheap pacesetters or/y and cutout. As far as driveability goes my fiance who is as pamperd as they come dont have any probrlem driving my car to get food or to go tan as a matter a fact she drove it to houston about a month ago. Sometimes she dont want to drive her accord. The car dont die or anything sometimes it might surge but she drives it as good as I do around town. I would recomend using a catted y pipe cause thats my fiances biggest complaint is the smell

One thing to keep in mind is the biggest difference in these cams is where they make power. I think most of these bigger cams are peak kings, in other words, dyno queens. Hardly any seem to post track ets. You gotta decide what's important to you- winning the dyno race or a real one. I'm all about power "under the curve", which means much better gains across the midrange, which equates to much better street driving power. Like you didn't already probably know that though.

ported 243's and a tr224 cam will get you to where you need to be and be reliable.

My car supposedly put down 405 at the back wheels... i dont have a dyno sheet as the previous owner had it dynoed. Anywho my power comes on at around 3K RPM and runs like a raped ape until ~6500. Very fun on a 35 MPH roll

im at 380rwhp with a MTI C2 cam (224/224 .581/.581 112lsa), LTs, TDs and a tune. Your title says "400 RWHP on a bolt on LS1 with a cam. Is it possible?" The answer is yes. you can be well over 400rwhp if you want, but since you want a wife-friendly car, stick to the lower cams like everyone has suggested. Theres no reason for a trex/ms4

What, a petty officer back from the bilges!!!! ^ I'm debating which cam would be "better" than my old 224/228 581 112+2 XER. Kind of wondering what difference 228/230 59X would make if any.

I (and my wife) want at least a little lobe to the cam, but just not something that is a royal PITA to drive in town. I have had a 230/232 cam before, and I would't mind something even slightly more agressive than that, but not as big as the T-Rex cam.

when youre referring to the "cammed sound" its lope, not lobe buddy. Lobes are what open the valves, lope is what catches everyone's attention

I guess the next question to ask is; at what point is a cam considered "too big". This will obviously be a matter of opinion, but I guess I would like something just underneath what a general consensus of what "big" is.

Like I said earlier, I am looking for something that thumbs and bumps a bit at idle, but not so big that the wife has a hard time driving it around town. I would like something that still has decent mid range as well, as I don't want something that makes all of its power way up top in the RPM band.

All of this with a good dyno tune. Is 400 RWHP possible with this? Or will I need to go with a little more agressive cam to get me there?

I would like to stay with some form of this combo, as in, I don't really want to get aftermarket heads as well. Any suggestions? Or thoughts?
Look at my thread and its just a Hotcam, with 393 hp on a mustang dyno!
I love the driveability, and the gas mileage is still the same even though I have nearly 100 hp more than stock!
Just my 02 cents though I know all these other guys with Big Chuck Norris Donkey Dick cams are gonna chime in and pursuade you, just do a search and make your decision, JUST COMPLIMENT any MOD you do!

Why don't you start a thread and ask, instead of asking it in my thread about my question?
