385 build 98 l31 vortec heads
I was wondering what you all think my HP #'s will be with this set up: i read that max lift for stock L31 vortec heads is .470 valve lift so I hope I don't run into any problems with this cam what do you all think? I wish i could buy a nice set of alluminum heads but my funds are running short, maybe in a few months i can buy a good set. I don't want to spend any more money in machine work so they will have to do for a while. any input will be greatly appriciated.

roughly 350 horses and 425+ torque, done by 5000. according to DD anyway. i'm assuming summit cam and about 11:1 with the flat tops and would be a riot of a street motor, but i'd suggest a cam with a duration split, in my experience playing with them they like 6 to 10 degrees split int/exh
edit:look at the 1102 grind put you over 450 torque without sacrificing the horses, peak around 4800. not a race motor by any means, but it'll do crazy burnouts and eat up that 700r4 and a stock 10 bolt in no time flat lol

if it puts down those numbers i woulb be happy and your right it won't be a race motor just some thing to drive around and have fun in. you think the 700R4 won't hold up for long it's getting built right now and i told my mechanic i wanted it to holf up to 420-450HP told him i wanted to do the tranny only once and so far his garanting it will hold it with no problem. I have a TH350 right now but I'm tired of turning 3500rpms going down the highway back and forth from my kids soccer practice so i thought a 700R4 would work out. it would be nice to put down that high of torque #'s. thnaks for the input.

like i said, going with the desktop dyno numbers, 350 and 450 tq, peak hp at 4800. that 2000 stall will be about perfect for it. i'd get the 1102 cam, be a lot more fun to drive

it was within 5 HP of what my friend's motor made using a horsepower by mph calculation.... and i compared it to a few other dyno sheets and its pretty close so long as you give it good info. always been about right on for me. the 350 seems reasonable to me with a cam with that short of duration and lift around .465. i'll stand by it

350BHP is probably correct but I think we should clarify that the car will not be putting 350 HP to the wheels. Not trying to offend anyone but clarification is always good. What kind of computer management are you running? or have you thought about tuning?
I had an Iroc with a built engine and messed around with mail order tunes and it wouldnt even idle. It was a pretty radical setup but nothing out of the ordinary. I ended up spedning the money and buying a DFI and had it tuned by the best (Job Spetter Jr.) Just a thought for when you get to that stage. Good Luck
