BB 496 progress.
well after 2 and a half months i finaly got my block back from the machine shop anyway friday i got my bottom end together and today i still felt ambitous so i went ahead and set the short block and trans together so i can weld in my plates. took a few pics for motavation when i heve it pulled back out. I actulal had no problem getting the whole works to go through the hood useing a cherry picker. im sure with the heads intake and distributor wont be so easy. took about ten mins to have it bolted up though
enjoy, im off to pull it all back out.

I have no clue... Ive searched high and low for dyno numbers on 496's... ive seen pump gas motors claiming 600-750hp and race gas going 650-850hp. no one mentions at the crank or wheels.. This is my first built big block so id be happy just to see 600hp with that huge torque at a lower rpm. I probaly wont get dyno numbers at the crank, but id like to put it on a chasis dyno when its done. If it goes well ill put a direct port on top of everything just for reassurance This is all comeing from the car being high 11's with the ls1. so any ten sec time slip make me happy.

If everything is good, I bet you can see about 750 at the crank, probably more if everything is just right. Those are good heads and you're running high enough compression you should see good numbers.

Its the BMR setup for big blocks with the pinto style manual rack. I bought a flamimg river pinto rack. it took some custom made parts and fabrication to make it work. for anyone considering it keep in mind its not a direct bolt in.. youll need to make or buy tie rod adaptors/extensions, a clamp for the pass side of rack and a steering coupler adaptor 26 spline - 3/4''. Im not sure you can buy the way to adapt, the pinto rack has a smaller sae fine thread where the f-body balljoint is a bigger metric fine thread. and you need about 4 inches on each side.

I also found out if you plan on running the motor plates like i am the driver side plate will run right into your abs block and bracket. I found that the front sway bar mounting bolts in the frame rail match the front 2 bracket holes and you can move it up out of the way by bolting it there. just cut the tab off the bracket and you only get the 2 bolts in instead of 4... boo..
only one brake line needs to be bent to have it mounted there. works fine for me and the plate will not disturb anything.

Heres my solution to the ABS block and motor plates. I'm not running a plate but I wanted to move my ABS block to free up more room. You can see it that great but you can see that its been moved to where the ram air box used to sit.
Heres the clearance I got out of my Hooker Headers 2455 on the passenger side. I'm not through with the drivers side yet.

Ill get as much info as i can throw up as it comes. deff some vids when up and running.
Im kicking myself now because i forgot to take a driveshaft measurement when everything was set and mounted

That dash looks awesome. I thought about doing that, but since I don't have A/C I'm just going to use the vents for gauges and run the 3 3/8 tach & speedo with the rest being 2 5/8 gauges. One in each corner and one in the middle between the tach and speedo, then the rest in the vents.
