Default Very Cheap 305-340 TPI build. Cant believe the number!!

A buddy of mine bought an 87 TPI 305 5speed car for next to nothing a few months back. The car had 230,xxx miles on it. The body and interior looked great for its age. But the motor had seen better days. All it had done was a flowmaster muffler and 3.73's. He decided that motor needed some freshing. This guy is that guy that is at the right place at the right time always. Now for the good stuff.

He scored a 3.750 crank for $65 (cast). Then scrounged a set of Vortec heads from a local junkyard for $30. They looked like pure shiiiiiiite. Had them magnafluxed and they were fine. The only brand new part on the car is the base of the intake to accecpt the vortec heads. He changed out the springs to LT4 springs for $30. I gave him my factory LT1 cam and stock injectors. He bought a set of proform 1.6rr's off ebay for $70. And of course a Summit rebuild kit. And a set of used hooker LT headers for $100. All the parts are pretty much the cheapest possible. He put the entire motor together to save money. (He's cheap if you havent noticed that) This thing put down 287rwhp and 336rwtq.

He also owns a completely stock 95 Z A4. The TPI takes it everytime by 3-4 cars everytime. I am amazed that he did it so cheap and it puts out number like that with mostly used factory parts.

Sorry bro, not a 305 anymore, not with a 3.75 crank. Those Vortec heads really wake up a mild engine, cant beat em bang for the buck on a mild to moderate setup and then there is ported.....

I don't think its rated that high. But the trans will definitely need some attention soon, esp if he beats on it. A t56 would be a good swap and help it pull down some mpg's as well.
