Default Couple Q's for Firehawk guys.

EDIT: Moderator feel free to move this thread to Special Edition Vehicles
I did a forum jump when I went to post it and the forum subtitles
(firehawk) dont show on the forum jump. Apologies.

I was wondering was it only the 02 hawks that had 345 hp? Was it on all
02 hawks or was it an SLP option. Also it is my understanding that the
345 hp package includes a lid and high flow cats among other things.
Did hawks prior to 02 have these or was it just a part of the 02 345 hp
option. And the lid/cats that come on it from SLP are they equivalent to
aftermarket lids/high flow cats? Or would the aftermarket be a little
better? Just a few questions I had because I plan on getting a LS1 Hawk
for my first F-Body. Thanks in advance for any answers opinions you give.

The 345 option came with the mid to late SS's & Firehawk's & I believe it was simply the airbox & filter that they made the claim with.

The 345/Donaldson/Blackwing airbox & filter is one of the best you can buy, although if you buy it from SLP it'll cost ya. (An arm, a leg, & a couple fingers from the other arm, ...)

Find a used one on the forums or eBay for a good deal. (I found a brand new one in the box, whole kit, for like $100-125 from someone who had bought it, wrecked the car & never got to use it. I can't remember exactly how much I paid, as that was quite a while back, ..., But it was cheap!)

The SLP aftermarket lid is not any better. In fact the OE Blackwing lid is much better quality. And it's also much better quality than most aftermarket lids altogether. You won't have any noticeable flow differences between any aftermarket or the Blackwing lid.

(I don't think the Cats had anything to do with it.)

Good Luck!

Thanks for the post Pontiacfan. The reason I asked how well the
cats perform is when I get the car. I'm already planning true duals
with high flow cats. Wasnt sure if they were high flow or not or if
I'd need to buy cats. Anyone else wanna throw their .02 at me?

The 345hp was only for the lid and filter. If you added that to an 01 Hawk you would have the same 345hp. There were no cat issues. They are stock GM ones. Most of the later 02 models got the lid and air filter. There were a few that got them early like I did. My car is #168. The lids will flow about the same so just get the one you like the best. Mine came with it but if I had to go buy one it would be any used one I could find and then paint it how I want it to look.

Our Firehawk came with the Blackwing lid, and we sold it. Ours had fitment issues. It would not stayed clipped into place and therefore kept popping off. You would put the tab in the back into the slot. As soon as you drove the car, the tab would pop out. Bought a Texas Speed one used. It fit fine and stays clipped into place likes it's supposed to. Never had a problem with it.

We sold the Blackwing one on Ebay. The person who bought it didn't have the fitment problems with it we did so who knows...

Mine would not stay that tight when I had a K&N filter in it but once I changed it to the Holley Powershot it has thicker rubber abound the filter and my lid closes very tightly now.
